| Supporting SBHCs Amidst Immigration Enforcement Increase Across Washington State, school communities are navigating a period of heightened fear and disruption due to the increase in immigration enforcement activity. The subsequent threat to safety is being felt by students, families, and the communities who support them. Schools and our SBHCs can see how this immediately impacts trust, attendance, and engagement. When external actions interfere with a school’s ability to function as a predictable and protected environment, young people pay the price. School-based health centers nationwide are being asked to respond to rapidly changing conditions while continuing to meet students’ health needs with compassion. The Washington School-Based Health Alliance (WA SBHA) stands in solidarity with that shared work.School-based health services play a critical role during times of disruption. Their ability to provide care that is trusted and embedded in students’ daily lives makes them an essential, stabilizing force. WA SBHA remains committed to supporting schools, districts, and health partners as they navigate these challenges. We invite you to help shape what comes next: If you work in a school-based health center or at an organization providing supplemental health services, such as mobile care, we want to learn from you. Please share what you are seeing, what strategies you are using, and where additional guidance or training would be most helpful in this Google form.
