Oral Health in Schools

Interested in learning more about bridging the gap between prevention, primary care, and intervention for oral health? Join Madlen Caplow and Nicole Woodruff from the Arcora Foundation‘s Mouth Matters team to talk about oral care in school-based health centers!
This will be an engaging hour-long clinical session for anyone interested in oral health in SBHCs.
Presenters:
Madlen Caplow, MPH
As Program Manager of MouthMatters for over 15 years, Ms. Caplow has led statewide efforts in Medical/Dental Integration for the Arcora Foundation. She engages medical system leaders, recruits primary care practices, and implements clinic-based trainings in oral health education, screenings, and fluoride varnish application. Trainings are reinforced with ongoing quality improvement and system- level support. To date, nearly half of Washington’s pediatric providers have been trained through MouthMatters. Previously, Ms. Caplow served as an Improvement Advisor and Practice Coach with the University of Washington’s Child Health Institute, supporting pediatric collaboratives. Earlier in her career, she managed health promotion programs at Group Health Cooperative, where she developed and evaluated preventive health tools and initiatives used in the medical system. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from Colorado College and an M.P.H. in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of North Carolina.
Nicole Woodruff, ARNP, CDE
Nicole is a board-certified family nurse practitioner and a certified diabetes care and education specialist. She has been practicing since 2004. The majority of her professional career has been in an outpatient diabetes specialty clinic. In late 2023, she transitioned into a new role, working inpatient as the glycemic care consult service for hospitalists at UW Medical Center–Northwest Campus, as well as serving as a clinical nurse specialist for the hospital’s nursing staff. In addition to her work as a nurse practitioner, she has served for the past 10 years as a project consultant and medical strategic advisor at Arcora, the foundation of Delta Dental of Washington.
