Learn With the Alliance & K12 Hill Joint Training: HIPAA/FERPA

February 11 @ 10:00 am 11:30 am

The Washington School-Based Health Alliance’s Learn with the Alliance and Community Health Plan/Network of Washington (CHPW/CHNW)’s K-12 Health Innovations Learning Lab (HILL) are excited to collaborate with the National Center for Youth Law on an exciting joint training session on HIPAA/FERPA in school-based health centers (SBHCs) in Washington.

The National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) has been dedicated to creating a society where all children—regardless of their race, family background, gender identity, or immigration status—have the support, freedom, and power necessary to thrive. For over 50 years, NCYL has worked closely with young people and their communities to achieve this goal. Recognizing that children’s lives are shaped by numerous forces, including schools and health providers, NCYL drives meaningful, lasting change by integrating law, policy, research, and community partnerships. They help clarify various laws and policy, advocate for youth’s sensitive health privacy rights, and help youth, families and service providers navigate complicated conversations around consent, confidentiality and information sharing.

What is K-12 Hill?

A virtual learning series where Community Health Center colleagues across WA come together to explore innovations, pilot projects, and best practices for integrating CHC health care services for youth and families in school settings and across diverse communities.

What is Learn With the Alliance?

A quarterly brown-bag style meeting with WA SBHA and SBHC affiliates. Focused on collaboration and networking, our hope is to navigate SBHC challenges through shared knowledge and expertise.

Who will be presenting?

Rebecca Gudeman is the Managing Director of Health & Well-being at the National Center for Youth Law. Rebecca works to ensure that young people’s needs are centered in their healthcare experiences by coordinating policy, litigation, communication, and community engagement efforts that support communities in which all youth have the resources and access they need for healthy growth and development. She has advocated for young people for more than 30 years and is a leading national expert in multiple areas, including confidentiality and information sharing across child-serving systems, adolescent health access, and health care consent.
